Set like a gem into shades of green and blue, Tathra surrounds itself in the natural beauty of both Mimosa Rocks National Park to the north, and Bournda National Park to the south.
Migrating whales always pop-in, and the bay is home to many seabirds such as the endangered Little Tern, and there's an abundance of wallabies and kangaroos who love to visit the beach in the mornings.
The beach meanders three kms around the shoreline, patrolled in summer and protected from southerly winds, making it great for surf, board riding and sailboarding. There are beach wheelchairs available from the surf club, and fully accessible accommodation nearby.
The Tathra Surf Life Saving Club has been in operation for over 100 years and is key to some major events including the biennial George Bass Marathon and the Tathra Wharf to Waves ocean swim event each January.
At the northern end of the beach is sheltered swimming at Mogareeka Inlet where the Bega River meets the sea.
There are countless opportunities for adventure in the hills that surround the town with 50 kilometres of expert built, single track mountain bike trails, and the Kangarutha Track is a coastal excellent challenge....
